What happens if you do not wash your car for a while (build up of grime, dust etc)

(1) Will it damage the paint?

(2) And will it be washable at a later point in time - or will the grime/dust etc permanently damage the paintwork?

Different weather conditions damages paint overtime....Depending on whether your car is parked in the garage it my prolong the paint life. And no s**t if you dont wash your car it will get dirty  Bird crap, dust, rain, hail, heat, sun, wind are all factors that contribute to your cars paint life. And you can wash your car any time you want.

Detergent and water - will that do?

or would that damage the paintwork?

I use detergent and warm Water with soft bristle brush to clean the car, then rinse, then cloth wipe down. and haven't seen any bad side effects on any of our household cars.

Washing you car saves the paint work.

Bird s**t, Sap, Road grime etc also eats the paint.

Really how hard is it to chuck some warm soapy water over and quick hit with a sponge and hose off and Chamy off.
