Has anyone tried to convert the BA XR6 fog lights to driving lights ? I live in the country and need all the lights I can get for roo's and hairy rocks (wombats).

I don't want to 'bolt on' a set of after market lights. Driving lights, even being so low would help. We don't get much fog so I would rather have the driving lights.

I realise that I would need an auto elec to wire them in and I would probably use the existing fog light switch.

why not just turn them on when you need them? afaik they're a standard hella driving light, only thier low mounting position makes them a foglight

I was thinking that someone may have found something to replace the standard units. Something else that has more power and more reach.

Do you have a Deering Autronics near you?

If so visit them and ask for the Sealed Driving lights they sell for smaller Aeroplanes.
If not go to the airport and find someone selling Equipment for Aeroplanes.
These Driving lights are of the same size as XR fog lights and will fit OK in the XR bar.
The light emitted from them is EXTREMELY good and far far better than any driving light you can find small enough to replace the XR fog lights.

Thanks for that, I will chase it up.

I figured if I could get an auto electrician to wire the fog lights to come on with the high beam instead of the low beam, I could fit stronger bulbs and raise them up.

Its not the positon on the bar that makes them a fog light. The main differance between a fog light and a driving light is the reflector. As a driving light has a long beam, fog light is a wide beam.

Conversion would be near impossible. the lights would need replacing and wiring differantly so as too only come on with high beam.

The Hella FF200 (factory XR/Territory fog light) comes in different kits.

The fog lights have a shield inside the light to cut the beam off and works excellent as a fog light.

There is also a driving light kit ... looks identical with no shield inside the light housing ... and gives a longer throw.

It is in the Hella catalogue ... and you can get the replacement lights to pop into the standard foglight mount in the Ford bumper.

I just installed a Set of FF75 slimline foglights under the numberplate on my AU ... as I needed foglights in my area in the early mornings.

But I run LightForce 240 driving light for high beam (so i already have that area covered).
