Hey,

I have a white au ute... i just want to paint the cab on the outside and worry about inside/engine bay later..

the paint isnt bad its just got chips and scratches through it...

Is it simple enough to rub back the paint thats on it and just spray over?

yeah that shuldnt be a problem, make sure the surface is clean before spraying or the paint could react. Sand until smooth all over and then wipe some wax and grease remover over it to get rid of an excess dirt or nasties, id then spray an undercoat or primer, and then sand agen till smooth, once agen use some wax and grease remover to be safe and then spray ur gunmetal grey. Dont apply to thick or the paint may run so patience is needed for a good paint job, but as most will say 80% of a good spray job is in the preparation, so dont take any short cuts and u will have a nice finish.

Someone correct me if im wrong please im just going off my own personal experience, but mine turned out fine. goodluck mate

Thanks, that's what I always hear.. it's all in the preperation...

I have never attempted anything like this myself so its a bit daunting...

I want to get an TS50 Front Bar, and a XR8 Bonnet, then once I have those I will do it.... so it's done all at once.....

I'm going to go through and read as much as I can about spraying... see what others have done...

yeah mate it can be a bit daunting but the good news is ur doing it urself so the time taken is up to u so theres no1 rushing you. Be patient and make sure it is all level and smooth other than that use the wax and grease remover and the paint shouldnt react at all and lastly the spray. ive been told to spray in horizontal fashion obviously and just keep it to one layer at a time and allow each layer to dry a bit so there is no paint that runs. after the job is done i wouldnt touch it for 48 hours just to avoid any fingerprints staying on the paint, but after that two pack paint takes 28days to fully cure but you should be right to drive before then

all the best mate
