correct me if i'm wrong but i'm guessing these are illegal, aside from obviously being "chapel street tacky" :D

Probably depends on the colour and state.
Down here there's a Commodore station wagon which is the company car for a local exhaust shop it town. It has a red one fitted which is hooked up to the brake lights (i.e. it lights up red when they put the brakes one). I don't see any cops down here giving them any trouble for that.

Maybe hooked up as a brake light is legal since its not always on.

i gave my 16 yo brother my el fairmont huge stereo, dumped on 18s, all the usual stuff and he bought one to replace a twin chrome tip. i punched him in the throat. and my respect for him dropped to a record low

the local exhaust shop ute up here (VS SS ute with maloo body kit) had one fitted to each side as it had twin exhaust outlets (one on each side) and had it hooked up to the brakes..
very gay...
