hi there, im new here but have a fair idea about fords. I'm 17 (on my p's) and have an 88' EA Fairmont which is 2 tone. Cardianal Red (being the top colour) *pretty sure* and silver being the lower half.

I am due to respray a few spots on my baby and get my bonnet completely fixed up, free of dents and chips and resprayed back to its original colour and a few other marks and chips fixed up here and there.

The only problem is that I'm not to keen on the 2 tone and I'm going to ditch the rear spoiler as I'm starting to dislike it. Now Im tossing up between getting the whole car resprayed (cardinal red) so there would be NO silver..only the silver lineing and grey protectant strip in the middle. OR getting the whole car resprayed a different colour to my own choice.

I'm a little confused tho, i think that if i get the whole car red - it will look too *full on*..too much red. and will be a waste of my money if it ends up looking s**t. But then if i get her resprayed in a totally different colour i will be completely satisfied. any ideas??

I have been quoted an extremely good price to fix the bonnet +respray it+ get rust out of 2 front guards and touch ups $300 and my car will look like it just rolled out of the factory 20 yrs ago. (2 tone).
It will roughly cost me another $500-$700 to get the silver converted to red.

BUT - for a completely new colour it will cost around $1500.

sorry for the LONG question..i just needed you to know where i was coming from. any ideas?

cheers, luke.

This is my baby.

Maybe get the red redone and the grey body moulds sprayed red but leave the silver on the bottom..

Hi Luke, welcome to the forums.

I reckon it's a nice looking colour scheme, really suits the car nicely. As for what to do I'd say keep the theme, but it really depends on what you're happy to spend on it.

thanks mate, yeh i bought these off my dad. Wasn;t too keen on them at the start but they have grown tramendiously on me.

Also, does anybody know anything about the ea bonnet scoops? the large ones in the centre of your bonnet?..im not sure if that would just ruin my car or not?

yeh thanks. my plans are to get clear indicators and red mirrors and doorhandles and strips.. with them, all you do is paint them? nothin special?

Yeah just paint them, might be an idea to do a practice spray on something first if its your first time spraying..

Hey DUN-UP,
Welcome to FM mate....

I reckon your fairmont looks pretty good in the
2 tone. Its something a bit different than what one
usually sees. Maybe some new paint will freshen it up a
bit, maybe a colour selection that makes the 2 tone
difference more subtle??

I'm not sure that its Cardinal Red though, seems a bit
brighter red than that. Check your paint code on the
VIN plate and see what its called here....
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/colourco ... list=EA-ED

Here's a pic of my Fairmont, which is in Cardinal Red
http://www.linknet.com.au/stone67/ebside.jpg

Whichever way you go, all the best with the project mate.

After looking at EB92's pic I reckon those rear pillars (c?) make the car look a lot cleaner, I think
NAfairlane... is onto something there.

Also I think EB92 had a good suggestion with trying to tone down the 2 tone a little, but still keep the 2 tone, might just take the edge off it but will still have the original style about it.

"nedkelly" yeh the rear pillars are a good idea. any idea where i could get some from? ebay? wreckers?

with your help i have come up with this. remove windsheilds. paint grey strip red. paint mirrors red. around the outside of the windows will be black. door handles = red. spoiler gone. and fix up the red paint i was telling you about.

"bunter" hi there, mine are 17's. yes they are a good looking wheel!..suite it down to the ground. lookin to upgrade soon tho to 18's.

Looks good as it is, but remember, EAs arent worth much at all, it will be dead money, leave it and save your money for another car.

Just to put that in perspective though, Ef's El's and even BA's are getting to that stage now.

It's up to you if your happy to spend the money on it or not.

When I modify my car, I do it because I want to, not because I'm trying to increase the value of my car.
