Firstly, happy new year to all, hope you all had a good one and much luck for the future.

Now onto business, i have a spare set of EF/EL Fairmont (clear indicator lensed) tail lamps which i am wanting to fit my own LED/circuitboards into.

Basically what i need to know is if anyone has successfully separated the outer lense from the lamp housing with out having to hack with a knife etc. I can see some sort of glue/sealant that has protruded through a join in the back of the lense and was hoping maybe if i lightly heated the lamp, say, in an oven or with a heat gun that the lense should just pull away from the housing.

I know someone on FM has done this before, but i'm not sure in how they managed to do it. If anyone can share information or experiences, if they have done this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again! - Matt

someone did indeed do it before. i think the way to go is carefully in the oven to heat up the sikaflex then pry them apart

Thank's Leroy, i was pretty sure that the lenses were glued on and not moulded/melted onto the housing. I might give it a go soon.

This has been a 'gunna' project for about the last 8 months now haha, i just havn't been bothered to do it untill now. I'll be leaving the reverse lamp as a normal incandescent globe, but the turn signals and brake/tail lights will be converted to LED by means of a circuit board whick will fill the whole lense (not just a replacement twist in LED cluster), think BMW 330ci, i think they were the ones with full LED tail lamps.

Before you do, search for all threads by 'mavs19' - he really knew headlights/HID's, etc.

NP - Refine your search to the threads where he covers LED's - there is some very important advice he gives.
