I have a set of 18's to go on my fairmont, they have 235/40zr18 tires on them,
and i am unsure if they are legal or not to put on my car in victoria. if anyone has a heads up on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

check it out on the vicroads website

then go to the miata tyre calculator page
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

235/40/18 will be ok when compared with a 205/65/15 tyre as its only .1" difference in diameter which is like 2.5mm so its good to go.

hey mate,
thanks that was very helpful, once the car has been roadworthy'd i will put them on, will probably have to roll guards or something because apparantly the guy who had it before me said they rub, but yeah i will figure it out. thanks for the helpful advice and links
