Just spoke to ford about getting a new set of the red strips that run around the car...

they said that they dont sell them seperate to the bumpers! and that the side strips come with the bumpers too! thats crap!

i may have to paint them now, but id prefer just to get new ones!

anyone else come against this problem?

you dont know what your missing out on vince.. ive found heaps of hard to find s**t there..fairlane/fairmont and xr gear at fordpro is their specialty.. -is under new management.. the probs you describe is because of the age? or does it happen to all red stripes no matter the age? have you considered colour coding them to the body of the car? or do you want to keep the red stripe look?

yeah id like to keep the red...
unless i got new ones with the chrome strip (failane? or fairmont? im not sure) then i wouldnt consider colour coding them, looks too plain without a breakup...

yeah they go pink with age, water and sun over the years just fades them...

seeing an el xr with its red strips still red doesnt happen often!

but i spose looking at the wreckers is worth a try, i might strike it lucky!

the problem with painting them is chipping, it takes one person to open their door on you and its time to do it again!

id try re-paint them red if they wont polish up good enough, and then paint a clear protector over it.

yeah ill give the polish a go, that should bring it back to a reasonable look that is easier to maintain, instead of the hard work it takes every week when i wash the car!
