Went to close the tailgate of the fairmont wagon last night when heard a hell of a noise and the rh tailgate strut popped out. At first thought the clip had come off but after looking realised that the round pivot pooint has rusted off stuck in the end of the strut. This part is welded to the body. Does anyone know if this small panel is available. Would prefer not to have to take this to a crash shop if i can. Few mates are pretty handy with a welder.

I have seen this on a couple of wagons, and they are both ELs too. Odd that.
In both cases they have welded the end back on and cleaned it up as neat as they can. Cheers BenJ

Yeah, seen a few corrode out, same like the screws for the D pillar covers.
Probably due to water flow, and rubbish collecting.
