Nah, you do gain about 5% worth of power with just a cat-back exhaust. Extractors also can add an extra 5-10% at the higher revs.

would be very dependent on the car. e.g. different cars and manufacturers the gains will be different as they exhaust systems are different, some would be more restrictinve. also the individual car, an ex taxi might have an already very free flowing exhuast system due to being so worn out there's not much left in stoping the flow, or an XR6 got the larger factory exhaust and so the gain would be less.
personally i wouldn't say that there was a 15% increase with my Lukey extractors and exhaust.

3" mandrel bent if you plan on going forced induction later. Even if you dont plan on going forced induction you can still get it and it has a nice note. Mine was 3" for 18months while i was saving cash for the turbo set-up...

Well obviously greater flow, also different note. 3" is deeper sounding, more like a V8. If you keep a straigh through muffler at the back it dulls it down a bit so you dont draw TOO much attention, yet still get a nice note to be proud of.

Shouldn't be much of a cost difference i think mine was around $650 but that included high flow cat.

Isnt there problems well not so much a problem but back pressure issues with NA cars running bigger than 2.5" systems ?

Not sure about the back pressure issue. I didn;t have any problems and the car certainly felt like it had a little more, but i never had it dynoed to confirm that. I know now i have a bit of a backpressure issue, too much but thats not an appropriate comparison in this situation..

It's less backpressure I believe, and more keeping up exhaust gas speed.
It's a juggling point between keeping small enough for a high gas speed, but still large enough to prevent a backpressure problem.
Personally I'd stick with the tried and tested mandrel bent 2.5"

Thats what I thought...Id bee sticing with a really good 2.5" mandrel bent setup with hi-flow cat etc etc until you go forced induction where a bigger setup might be required

Yeah, might stick to what Big Kev is saying.
If someone wants to throw some money around and test a 3" on NA, then dyno it, let us know :)

One other thing to think about tho i spose is going the 2.5" instead of a 3" or vice versa to try and chase those minute extra hp/kw ... if u dont care too much about scrumaing for the small gains in performance just want looks and note then stuff it get a 3"

If you're going to use the 3" eventually.
IMO, unless you have plans on pushing over 200rwkw through it, via some form of forced induction (or N/A.. ha ha), 2.5" is all that's necessary.
If, like pyroay said, you knew you were eventually going to turbo it, buying a 2.5" and then having to upgrade would be a waster of money.
But otherwise, stick with what ya' know.
