I want to get an Exhaust for my 1991 EB Fairmont.

Ive never bought an exhaust for any of my cars so Im pretty clueless.

I plan to get a 2.5 inch Redback exhaust. Mind you my current exhaust is stock standard.

I just want to know roughly how much louder this will make my car?
I want my car to be as loud as it can be whilst still at a legal state.

I dont want to blow my money if it aint gonna make too much of a difference.

Sezza,

In my opinion, and from what i've seen, redback's are a lil average on the quality and deep note... but that's just what I think. In the end, a 2.5inch will make it sound nice, but adding extractors will make it sound MINT!!!

I used to have an ED XR6, poly green manual, ran genies and a 2.5inch basic generic exhaust (no mandrel bends or high flow cats, etc). Make sure you don't keep the rear muffler and the b**ch will move like a pedifile at a HI 5 concert!

Mine was quite loud... I actually used to live round near you, dunno if you heard or saw it??? The note was legal, and an summer, on a hot night cruising, no radio was required!

In the mean time, if cash is a lil tight, go down to your local exhaust place and ask for a quote to remove your current rear muffler (if you still got it), shouldn't be more than $50-$100. that'll make it sound niiiiice!

but long story short  You will have a better note with a larger exhaust (without the rear muffler) and coupled with a nice set of extractors, not only will it sound nice, it'll move too!

Funny that.

I got a quote from an exhaust place and I asked the guy there is extractors would make it sound louder and he told me it wouldnt.

So, you think I should remove the muffler and not have anything at all? Is that legal and roadworthy?

Tell the shop you want Pacemaker 4480. 2.5" Mandrel bends, 2.5" High flow cat, 1 Loud lukey muffler. Will sound good with that. i had this system on my 3.9L

take the extractors and high flow cat out of that equation, and you will be looking around $250-300 at most places

Extractors give depth to a note.

As for removal of rear muffler, it's fine and legal. It's the one located in the rear wheel arch, right hand side.

In regards to $800, that's a mint sytem you'd be getting. Hi Flo and top class exhaust! Ther would only be a smallish difference whether it was mandrel bent or not. Same goes with a hi flow. It is after all, a street vehicle with a few mods, so don't get all wet thinking you're going to go to the moon with it! :D

id only recommend Mandrel bends as getting a 2.5" press bent system is more like getting a 2" exhaust.

with a mandrel bent system it would be better for him if he decides to do mods later like cam and head work.
