i painted my exhaust manifold heat sheild and tappet/rocker cover "bright red" with 400degree brake caliper paint i had to paint it :P i only did this cause i'm replacing the rocker cover gasket cause it was failing

few days later the heat sheild is ageing fast (going black) i painted it red cause nothing else tickled my fancy was thing green then blue then pibnk then purpl etc etc

oh yeah when tighting up ther middles bolt i heard a popping / crack type of noise would that simply be air escaping the gasket goo or have i crack the studs

soft pops are air, loud CRACK is a stuffed rocker cover... heard the sound once... painted many of covers.

i take it your car is an EB I, or you put an EA rockercover on it. aka 3.9L cover
