I've had a leak in my boot for months that I simply cannot find the source of.

When it rains, the boot gets damp, and now there's rust appearing in the boot lid, as the water condenses in the boot lid cavities.

Pics shows where it's coming in, but I cannot find where it's getting in.

Obvious place to look was on top of the area here, but I've sealed it all along the seam and it still gets in.

Only other place I can think of is around the rear window seal somewhere, but I've checked everywhere and can see no signs of that.

Any suggestions?

It's all clean under the seal.

b series falcons have a problem with the lap joint where you're arrow is pointed which would explain your leaks I would guess. It's where all those panels are sandwiched together.

That and the front plenum area under the bonnet and the lower/rear front guards, all troublesome area's that fords neglected to fix over the last 20 odd years. It's been happening since the XD's.

Also if you live near the coast I've found this to absolutely rape car steel. My ea has terminal cancer.

My old ED leaked around there, but on the left, it was the boot rubber had compressed and if I parked facing downhill it would pool and run over the rubber. I cut a small slit in the rubber (inside edge) and fed an old wiper blade inside it to expand it then sealed the slit with gasket goo. Problem fixed.

He does have a point Dave - bit hard to advise from a few pics - need to see the Actual car.

I'd suggest with boot open, use a hose with small flow and keep the well area flowing with water, check occasionally underside for drips.

Something with that much rust stains must show a sign of dripping.

My el leaked into the boot and parcel shelf, was the rear window, pulled it out and rear sealed it.
Worked a treat

Yeh I had exactly the same problem with my el, sprayed silicon around the whole of the boot seal and onto the gaps where all the boot panels join. My rust wasnt quiet as bad as that but i still sprayed it with rust converter. I dunno if ive solved the problem yet coz we havnt had heavy rain since, but i have a feeling it wont work as the carpet on the parcel shelf was also damp so i think its coming through the rear window seal.

Ford + Salt = Rust bucket. (replace ford with any other manufacturer) Fords just seem to suck more salt in. Which is funny as they were apperently designed for an australian climate, yet I've seen japanese imports shipped in by boat that have out-lasted fords but anyway..... Such is life. Australian made has been going downhill for quite some time.
It's about time australian car manufacturers reverted back to the longivity days rather than disposable safety....

AU's have the same rust problems as EA's and XF's had 20 years ago. BA's have new found rust problems & also carry the SAME inherent rust spots which makes them worse imho. It's Henry Ford Engineering at it's best.

Yes I've owned a ZF (xa) fairlane that suffered the same fate also. I just didn't want to get shot down for ford bashing lol. At the end of the day all cars are pieces of schitt haha I just like my fords because you can find parts in the bush & what you have to buy is usually cheaper than most other makes. On the other hand, the ZF was 30 years old.... not a bad run, more sacrificial metal I guess.

my uncle has a au xr8 3 and had the same problem. Went 2 ford and got a new boot rubber, turned it upside down and fixed it. The boot even sits more flush with the quarter panel, or the rubber where the wires run in2 the boot for the spoiler

I have an identical problem with my EL except it is both sides. I sealed from the top too with no improvement.

My feeling is that in the second pic it's coming from the left hand side and it runs down and settles where the most rust is (top RH side of pic) because that is the lower point and running my hand along there when it has been raining seems to confirm this.

This leads me to think it is the back windscreen but if there is anyone else out there that has suffered a similar issue your input would be a great help.

Worked a treat

Did you re-seal it yourself?
