As most may know by now Melbourne will be on Stage 3 water restictions as of the 1st of January 2007. That mean cars can only be washed at commercial car washes. The biggest problem with the car washes where you do it your self is that you have to use their brush which damages the paint work especially if its just cleaned a muddy 4WD. All the ones i have i have seen dont allow you to use your own sponge and bucket. It would be good to know of places that does allow you to use your own detergent, bucket and sponge. So if you guys know of places list post them here !!

take a 10lt container with rain water and 2 thermos with hot water and ya buckets and sponge. use the gun on rinse to fill a bucket to clean ya sponge and wash shampoo off with water gun on rinse. thats if the car wash u talking about have the water guns (most of them do) just dont point gun straight at the pannels and you will be fine.

I know all that but all the manual car washes i have seen dont allow the use of bucket and sponge no matter if it was your own water. Just wanted to know if there are any that do in Melbourne.

yeah jus like in sydney, it pisses me off, i havent washed my car at home in soo long. they have signs, the reason why they have these rules is because they want u to spend money. you could fill up your own bucket for $1 and have some time to rinse the car, then wash it down with your own soap and sponge from the bucket, then another $1 to wash it off, you would have spent 15min and spent only $2...

I have never seen any signs saying no buckets, an owner did give me a greasy one day though when saw me using the bucket/sponge.

If possible just go late at night when theres no staff on and you can take all the time you want because no one will be waiting to use the wash bay your in.

I was told off last week for taking my own bucket, sponge and liquid wash. I only wanted to use the wax and high pressure hose at the car wash.

What I do now is get the brush, and spray it with the high pressure hose before I use it. The amount of s**t that comes out of it is alarming.

geez I feel bad, I just wash my car in the drive way with the hose running.

have any of you challenged the carwash place owners that you are saving water by using a bucket, if you have to wash you car at their establichment because they recycle why not bring it up to today tonight or ACA attention that they are putting profits over water consumption when you are willing to use a bucket and sponge rather than let the water evaporate.

Just put the car in the backyard and do it normally. I think its stupid with these restrictions. Mum had an argument with me. She said the resivour was 3/4 full... we havnt had alot of water go in there for the last few years and yet its 3/4 full. She seems to think its going to dry up quick.

My grandpa wanted to water the garden and they only let you do that with rain water. So he tapped into the tap and made ever thing totally inviable. and he filled the rain water tank with that.

haha what a ledgend.
its rediculas that people cant even use a bucket of rain water to wash there cars....
we have 3 water tanks, plus have buckets in every sink in the house collecting waste water.
yet as of 1st jan, i have to go to some crappy wash place to wash my car.
mabye im gonna have to cut my washing to once a week..... i cant afford it otherwise lol.
i went to a "commercial" wash today, took my own wash mit and chamoi.
just used there rinse and "high pressure soap", which didnt work for the first 30 seconds.....

there a rip off. cost me $4, and used more water than i use at home.

easy,

go there, rinse ya car and fill a bucket, drive out and park in a side street. when ya finish, drive back in and rinse, done :P

i can see these private car washes are going to profit significantly now. wonder if any dodgey deals went on here. and i bet you will see a price rise from them soon.

Yeah same as znipa-x, i wash my car with the garden hose. But we have clean bore water, and i turn off the hose when i wash a few panels then rinse, then move on to the next few panels.
But then again our dam is past full, havent seen it that full in forever, and we are even sending our water to other places, so we are fine for water usuage round hunter region.

Isn't there a self serve car wash system on North road or around the Oakley area. I used to go there and wash my car at around 11:00pm with my own detergent and bucket and sponge. Just inserted coins to get the high pressure spray going. Nobody to f**k with you at that time of night.
