Hey guy's,
The chrome strips on the bumper's and outer door trim's of my fairlane have de-laminated and are blistered and peeling. It's just not making my car look any good...

I was just wondering if any one here has been able to find any replacement as most off-the shelf pin strip is just too thin?

Thanks
Dan.

IIRC, some members have found suitable chrome strip from super crap auto? I'm pretty sure i've read that several times.

I will be purchasing said stuff soon.

Alredy got a reply from her,
Apparently 10mm strip is the tickest they have.
Might be different stock here in wa though?

You can still buy the bumper strip inserts from Ford new(or at least 8 months ago you could)
With the side strips I ended up cutting mine with a stanley knife and then using a set of hedge trimmers to trim the (extra)bumper inserts to size it takes two rear bumper inserts total cost though was $300 at trade price

A cheaper alternative is to see your local sign writer and get them to make up some custom chrome stripes to the right size in the thicker 3m sticker material. Not sure on exact price, about to do this myself, so I'll let you know when I get quotes.
Cheers,
Mick

Yeah i was speaking to Fordfairmont yesterday and he suggested a website called stickerart i think it was, and they will make up a sticker to go over the old faded strip, making it look like new again. i think i willl be doing this

Thanks for the tip's guys.

@nsm074, i'm guessing you mean using bumper chrome and modify it to suit the door's? Sounds good but i think its a tad pricey.

@pimp_ltd & nciilane, I think i might do some ringing around on monday, would still be interested to see your quote.

Thanks again.

OK Lane/LTD owners, I have finally tracked down a guy who can get the correct chrome side strips made. They are done in a chrome metal film and will certainly be an improvement on the original trims, which by the age of these cars, would look crap on most, as mine do.

Here is a copy of his email response for more details:

"Hi Mick,
I have a DC LTD but there are two different types of size strips on the NA to NC series. The larger one on the bumpers we cannot do due to the chrome metal film not bending around the corners properly, however we can redo the side mouldings on the large style fine. The smaller style we can do however the corners are still not 100%, but very acceptable, & again we can do the sides that turn out brand new. The next series up for nf nl df dl & fairmont we have the different sizes for & as they are thinner than the earlier models we can provide all these sizes in the chrome metal film as well as a aftermarket extrusion for the front & rear bars.
If you can measure up the two sizes required & the amount of rolls you were looking at i can get back to you with a bulk price."

As stated above, he can do later models as well. So let me know who is interested and I will get him to do bulk lot pricing. Otherwise I will just buy enough to do my car to see how it turns out and pass on his info if successful.

Cheers,
Mick
