I just came across these:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-x-102-led-SMD-H4-Fog-Lamp-Xenon-White-LED-Lights-12V-/150675863980?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2314fb39ac#ht_600wt_1344

How would these go for actual replacements for standard H4 globes?
I can assume you'd get hassled by the police for not having an ADR approval etc.

Im also wondering if they would be bright enough to be used as normal low beam globes.
It's interesting, even if they are unable to be used efficiently.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Ive just heard that they can blow because of the high amount of power running to them.
Although that was the H4 globes, rather than the H1's.

These 'globes' will put out about as much useful light as a candle in your headlight.
They are not designed to be a real replacement, they are purely for looks.

They dont burn out due to the power, they burn out due to the cheapness of the components and the design. They are designed for 12v operation, but since a correctly functioning alternator will put out 13.7v at a minimum, and up to 14.4v, they dont tend to last long before groups of LEDs start to die.

Thanks for that MAD,
I don't think I'll be bothering with them after that...
Might have to go for your retrofitting :P
Cheers,

This man is one giant lightbulb. A wealth of knowledge about lighting.
Not to mention there is no cooling of the bulb and no possible way SMD chips of that size could put out anywhere near the light output of a halogen or HID bulb.
