Hi guys, a bit off topic here but im attempting to do the same sorta thing in my shed but i've come up against a few problems.
legally not allowed to spray 2k in your backyard?
the water drops thing mentioned before?
he has done panels individually, i've been told if ya do it like that they look different? is this only for metallics and pearls? do i need to spray the whole car together?
stripes in the bigger panels, tiger striipe i think its called? is this uneven spraying?
is ok to spray with wet floors in the shed? to keep dust down.
how to fix a drop on a panel? sand and spray the whole panel again? will that panel then look different to one next to it?
should i just give it to a shop n get them to finish it?

im using metalux 2pac pearl blueish green.

One of the reasons I dont use 2K... Acylic is easier to spray and fix if there is a screwup....

I have not painted with 2K so cant tell you the legalities of doing a back yard job or how to fix problems... With the moisture thing I think that is based on paint that uses thinners (water mixes with thinners) as 2K is a 2 part epoxy (think thats right) with paint and the hardener it uses a chemical reation instead of air drying.....

If you have a drip or run the I would think you should be able to rub it out when it dries then buff as you normally would but I would seek advice from people that have used 2K before....

With Metalics they have to be painted the same angle... if it is a door has to be painted as if the door was on the car as the change of angle alters how the metalics lay in the colour/clear.....

Hey SIXSEATER Great work man, am also thinking of doing a few jobs with the spray gun, so heres some questions for you seeing as yours turned out so well. First up, what type of gun, compressor and regulator did you use ie did you use a HVLP gun or a regular old vacuum one, and how big was the compressor you used? And did you build a temporary booth in a shed or something to minimise dust and polutants?

thanks for the feedback guys. yeah im really happy with the outcome and obviously i couldnt have done it on my own so i've sincerely got to thank all the ppl that directed me to the right path. :)

I used one of those cheap compressors from supercheap (blackridge one). Theres a special on at the moment where u get the compressor and a few tools at a great price. Worth looking into imo.

I used a gravity feed gun that i bought from my paint supplier, its a pontio 2mm air gun with a 600ml cup.
Honetly im not sure how big the compressor is but i was advised that it was not big enought to spray the car in one hit as the pressure would have dropped hence doing it in sections...
I sprayed it in my garage and wet the floors to minimise the dust and to prevent paint stains on the concrete.

Hope this helps but it did the job for me...

cheers.

Thanks Phongus. :)
I am very relieved mate. Im normally very impatient but im glad i did the hard yards as it was well worth it imo. It took me about 2 weeks and i was working like 8-10hrs a day. lol
I occasionaly sit back and have a look at the car and still think its kinda surreal me painting a car. LOL
But anyway, went and showed the to a few mates and they love it. lol Telling them that i did it myslef gives me great pleasure alsol. hahahaa

cheers.

looking great mate ..
i would have laid more clear on ..4-6 coats after the color ,then sanded when cured .
that would still give you atleast 3 coats still remaining ..
but,you can sand & clean ,,then clear it again .
not to much clear though .it will blister & peel in the aussie heat eventuly..
i see so many cars in qld with peeling clear .most have been touched up by caryards .
.lol.too much clear coat ..

keep up the good work mate .

looks really great mate :)

my NF has just recently got a case of orange peel around some areas that appear to have had some touch up must be just before i got it and have to sand em back and buff it to get my mirror finish back so this is a good read knowing i can fix my orange peel and still get the mirror finish :)
