Looking to paint my 96 Falcon that im usuing for track days. It currently sports the dull silver and wanting to spruce it up and make it stand out. Ive shopped around and getting a quote on a respray is crazy. One place wanted to charge me $5000! Im planning on doing it myself with spray cans. Ive attached a rough sketch of what i had in mind minus the decals etc. i repeat its a rough sketch so do not give me s**t about my colouring or drawing skills.

That green looks yellow to me :S. I thought you were going for Taxi yellow with a black upper...
Regarding painting it yourself...you'll be using A LOT of spray cans. I went through about 5 cans of paint (3 white, 2 black) for my motorcycle fairings. 2 cans of primer and 2 cans of clear. It would be faster and more economical if you borrow/steal (defo cheaper)/buy a compressor and gravity gun, buy paint/primer/clear in a tub and go nuts. Acrylic should be fine and cheaper and seeing it is a track car, I assume you don't want it to be the best of the best. If you buy budget items, I think you could spray the car for around $1000 and have the compressor for other uses, such as rattle gun track side!

My stepdad does have a compressor. i didnt even consider primer or clear :/

You could save a few thousand by just prepping the car yourself. Sand the paint back until you either hit metal or at least the primer, then fill in any holes/dents/imperfections, sand again until smooth and ask the panel beater to just spray the car. Although in doing so, they might say their job may not be guaranteed against orange peel or flaking etc since you did the prep work. You'll save money, but run the risk of them using s**t paint or just diluted paint ruining the finish and blaming it on your prep work. Rattle can job is doable, but I will tell you, for a proper job, you will need patience and a lot of time. It took me 2 weeks to paint my motorcycle fairings in Spring.
