Looking for some hints and tips on painting rocker cover and the serpentine belt / power steering pump cover.

In preparation for the Canberra AFD, I want to spruce up the engine bay a bit, and well this is cheaper than the blower I've had my eyes on.

I've spoken with local car paint people, and they say they can do me body colour in either an acrylic or enamel. Both, they say will handle the heat fine. Any confirmation here?

Was also told a clear coat wouldn't be needed.

Was quoted $27 a can (pressure/spray pack) for acrylic and $30something for enamel, not really a biggy price wise. But need to know how much I'll need for the two parts in question. I wasn't told the size of the can, but I'll assume standard go down to ricebahn or supercheap 'export paint' size.

I'll be picking up a s/h rocker cover from a wrecker, probably just a stocky (non-tickford), what prep work will I need other than thorough clean/degrease. Plastic belt cover should be easy.

Looking to the likes of Pierre or anyone else who has done the same thing for guidance.

hey mate,

personally i suggest forking out the bling a bit more and getting it sprayed properly by a spray painter/panel beater as you will get a 10x better finish and life on the paint. all i do is wipe mien off when its dirty, better then having to polish it up etc all the time.

spray up your pipes, your airbox lid, the powersteering cover, rocker cover. change a few of the nuts and bolts to alenkey style stainless steel ones, maybe change hoses if u can afford to (bit expensive) armour all other hoses and rubbers . spray the snorkel too maybe.. dunno what else really. plenum chamber?

possibly spray up washer bottle (i didnt, but seen others who have) and just do a good clean of the engine bay with degreaser (make sur eu cover up everything electrical including dizzy, and blow up water from around ur plugs when ur finished before u start engine, let engine run for few mins after u do it too)..

get the rocker cover powder coated

get a great strong finish

can also get it acid dipped to get a real good finish

shouldnt cost to much to get all that done, maybe bit more than a spray job, but a lot better in my opinion

everything minus the rocker cover looks terrible!

he obviously said "just put some airbrush stuff, whatever you reckon is 'cool' on it for me". and yes it'd cost a FAIR Bit for that, but you think he'd get he pipes redone etc if hes goin to waste that much money just for airbrushing!

the plenum chamber chrome dipped always looks trick tho!

im actually about to do mels, rocker cover, snorkel, (mandrel bent pipe coming on) and few other bits getting done to.. so ill post up when thats finished too
