Hey guys. Wanna take the filthy looking thing out and paint it the same colour as the body (dark green).

How much does this usually cost at a panel beater? Otherwise, if it's a simple job, how do I do it, what do I use, what DON'T I use... etc.

Cheers guys.

Ky

(offensive materials go here)

dang. would've got 10 for mine and bought yours. mines worth about 9 now... could spend double what its worth on it, and in the end, it'd be worth 8...guess thats the way things go with falcons though. or any car really.

so yeah, someone hit us up with a rough price??? :D

ok now im stuck.

ive asked around at about 10 panel beaters/painters as well as smash repairs and none of them are "yeah, no worries" for it.

a few of them said something about the heat... some said 9/10 times it works but 1 out of 10 times it wont stick... and others said because its an AU falcon, something about the aluminum or alloy or something, that it might cause troubles...

who do i go to? is there a specific place you should go like an engine painter or something?

cheers
Ky

Weird ... I have heard many others getting theirs powdercoated ... make sure it is acid dipped first to clean the surface .... and then any powder coater can do it for you .... it will survive the heat better than paint as well.

Most powder coaters will have an extensive range of colours ... will be cheaper though if they are already doing a batch of other items the same colour too ... saves them mixing up a colour just for one job .... or if you have a heap of parts you want done ... get them all done the same colour at the same time.

Ok so powder coating is another way of colouring the rocker cover? instead of actually having it painted?

Does this mean the colour is a sort of colour-toned white or does it look just like paint?

Looks just like paint .... but thicker and stronger ... and heat resistant.

I'll post pics of mine when i get it back soon.

I did mine with 2 pack regency red and 2 or 3 coats of clear. It won't come off. Just clean it very well with brake cleaner or degreaser. It'll be FINE :D
A few of my mates have done it this way and nothing has gone wrong. In my opinion, glossy metallic 2 pack looks a lot more impressive than matt finish flat coloured powdercoat.

probably just trying to fob you off. i painted an au cover for my ed. all i did was clean it up with good quality degreaser then before i painted it i cleaned it up again with good quality carby cleaner on a rag. then gave it a couple of coats of VHT Bright Red Engine Enamel. worked a treat and paint hasn't peeled/cracked
