Would any of you guys know how many kilo's would be saved in getting a carbon fibre bonnet and would it be worth it(I'm ganna be gettting bucket seats and removing tray lining and a few other little things to save some weight at the same time). It's would cost me an extra $800 over the standard.
Also I'd like to know if anyone has any pics of white cars (prefebly au falcons but not neccasary) with carbon fibre bonnet and what they think of it. Just wondering cause I'm definatly ganna get a bonnet bulge on my au III xr6 ute but just trying to figure out the carbon fibe side of things. |

Why do you want to lose weight on the car? Wont make much difference. I yet to see a falcon with carbon fiber bonnet.

what are you doing with the car that the few kilos saved with the bonnet is really theat important?
dunno how much it would actually save, but i would hedge a bet it would be no more than 10 - 15kg. at the most. Showig the carbon fibre looks d**k. no photos, but have seen it in person a few times. maybe go to autobarn and grab a roll of the fake carbon fibre and sit it on the car. bonnet bulges on AUs look cool though. |

I'm losing weight because I don't really need the ute lining anyway and I'm planning on visiting the tracks alot more over the coming years nence the bucket seats and While I'm at it I though I'd just remove a few more kilo's so I thought I'd ask if it was worth getting carbon fibre bonnet since I'm getting a bonnet bulge soon anyway.

You obviously havn't seen too many late model modified falcoons then... Talk to AWC, they're the only ones I'mn aware of that make them, thjey'll be able to tell you the weight difference, also the weight difference between carbon fibre and fibreglass (glass is heavier a bit). |

That'd more than likely be state dependent. Worst case is you just paint it body colour, you've still got the weight advantaged, and without close inspection no one would realyl notice. |

AWC says the glass bonnet saves over 20kg so C/F be more again. Worth it if going to the track etc. It all ads up.

For anyone wanting a fibreglass ef/el bonnet with ba bulge, awc on fordfurms.com.au has a list started which only needs 3 more people to start making them.

CF and to some extents FG isn't street legal because the 50mm or something clearance to the block wouldn't be maintained in a crash.
the idea is to stop ppl's heads striking the cylinder heads. the carbon wouldn't be a structural piece to do that i wouldnt' think

Here is a pic of the STFORD project car from Street Fords
magazine. I know this car was fitted with a CF bonnet and they featured the mod in one of their issues, not sure which number. though. The pic may have the CF bonnet, or maybe a black steel one, as they are deemed illegal I think.

what is heavier a tonne of bricks or a tonne of feathers
stuffing with your bonnet is dangerous for you,pedestrians as already mentioned and your pocket. have you seen where the 1st crash sensor is in an el? if its a track car ditch the air bag setup while your there to save a few kgs

Was that real CF on the Street Fords car? i know they used rolls of the fake stuff for the roof. hrmm..anyway Data_Mine has a real CF bonnet on his GTP.
