Hey BuNtEr,

What's the angle with the thinning and clear mixing in the last few coats? Is this just for acrylic jobs?

Do you know of any good books or sources of info on getting good finishes from acrylic?

Cheers.

i have only done it with acrylic paint jobs as sometimes with acrylic if you paint a few layers of just clear and its not done right the clear will peal off chip away if you add it to the paint in the past coat it dont peal as its mixed into the paint

if you do a good enough job you don’t need to add clear after you paint it you should get a shiny gloss finish from the gun.

i have painted 100s of cars in acrylic and a few less in 2 pac over my crazy life as a young nut with my V8 vals im getting too old to build cars like I used to and my health will not let me.

Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tip.

V8 Vals eh? I have in the shed a '70 VG Hardtop, with 245 hemi 6 though. Plans are to fit the period '70s Accel/Turbosonic blow-through turbo kit the ol' man and I picked up off ebay. Won't be a super-duper set-up but should give the old girl a bit of a tickle!

ive had a look at the ute in person... is definatly a nice colour in person... Apears to be a flat red colour in the shadows and at nigh but when the sun hits the paint work it shows off the glitter that was added to the red in the tin prior to spraying... has a real nice subtle shimmering effect in the sunlight... looks sweet... the pics do not do the paint work justice.. does not show up the "shimmering effect"...... 8-)

what I meant by a dust free environment was a clean garage or shed and dust free as no sh*t will blow up from the ground when you spray! and to stop that you wet the ground first. me and my mates have used this method for years and for a lot of cars,so far never had any problems! so BUNTER i'm not having a crack at you just explaining my method and my term of 'dust free'..
