Hi all

Didn't know where to put this so am trying here. I need to remove the windscreen from my parts EB so O'Brians can replace the one in my wifes EB.

I asked them how much to remove it and they want $180, then another $180.00 to install it in the other car. I would rather save the $180.00 to just remove the screen so I am here asking what the trick is...

Any help appreciated

Cheers
RD

The reason they want that much to pull it out is because it is rather difficult to do on the glued in screens to not smash/crack the screen in the process.

I have had a few successes, and a couple of failures, its just luck of the draw, how old the screen is, if it has any chips i probably wouldn';t bother.

Anyway, the method i use is to cut along the gluefrom inside and out with a sharp flexible knife, then carefully pierce right through a section, and then cut around the screen with strong fishing line, or preferebly real thin metal wire.

If you take alot of care, you may get it.

Thanks for that, I figured it wouldn't be easy. The screen in the scrap car is perfect, not a blemish on it. The one in my wifes car has an L shaped crack running from the roof on the drivers side to towards right hand A pillar.

I understand OBriens use a wire to loosen the screen, might try and figure out soemthing like that and see how I go....

Anyone else have other suggestions (other than a big hammer :))

Cheers
RD

RD.

Call a mobile installer. They should be able to supply and install a new screen for around $180.

Sometimes, recycling parts is more expensive, and this is one of those times.

Far out, really? Bugger recycling then, I'll get someone in this week. Did you use anyone in particular?

I paid $180 for a windscreen supplied and fitted onsite here in Adelaide. I used complete windscreens, I think they are in SA and VIC, but I am sure that price would be much the same elsewhere.

they are right if it has a chip in your wiper arm area they shouldnt fit it it will fail a roadworthy every glass in your car is toughened so you break them they will shatter in millions of pieces wind screens will only crack because the have a sheet of glass then a sheet of laminate then another sheet of glass you can go to super cheap and get a windscreen removel tool for like $20 or you could do the old way and use piano wire us windscreen fitter use the pull knife witch is what you get from super cheap go to a wreckers and pracktice first tho and spray helps alot aswell

p.s you will need a stanley knife when for when u cut the bottom out
