hi guys,

just started my BA bulge mod. going realy well.

got hold of a spare bonnet so i didnt have to butcher mine, and also so i could keep my car in tact till completed.

Image

i decided to mount the bulge a bit further back than most have been done as the feedback is they look too far forward.

Image

cut the fibreglass bulge down, placed on the bonnet and traced around it.
then got the old angle grinder out and cut through the bonnet skin.

Image

decided to add a couple of vents to the back of the bulge to encourage cold air to draw through from under the engine and out the top

Image

then filed the rough edges on the bonnet, liquid nailed the bulge down and some bricks for weight. it's still drying.

Image

it was surprisingly quick and easy to get this far and im looking forward to continuing. will update as i go. thanks to the other members who posted their bulge builds as this made it easier to know where to start.

fibre glass and bog come later. i use the term liquid nails loosely. it is a special adhesive suitable for metal and fibreglass. once its set in place, fibreglass will be used to bond all the way around and the underside to the bonnet ribs

You need something to hold it down first. Personally I used sikaflex and a couple of screws - the screws were removed once it was fibreglassed in place aswell.

Looking good, I want to do another one as a spare but I might add some vents like you have. I have had mine on now for well over six months now with no cracks etc...going strong and its driven every day.

just a quick question, for all you others that have done it how many have noticed cracks and have u put this down to just using bog and screws like fordfreak ???

also be careful with those cents and roadworthy as a mate of mine got stickered for having vents like that, coppers rekoned a leak under the bonnet would come up onto the window...

i scored my self a slightly damaged BA XR8 bonnet . Im going to use the whole skin off the bonnet and affix it to a EF bonnet , once done going to cut out the inner frame work and weld it into the under side of the bonnet , that way it should look 100% original :D
other wise top job on cutting out ya bonnet and getting it into the bonnet it self , instead of sticking it to the outside skin . :D

If you do a search for my thread from when I fitted one of these to my EF you'll find a member on here who sells them for cheaper than they were on ebay back then. I think his name was something like EBXR8.
