All the threads I search and staff in wheel stores tell me different stuff. So, if someone could tell me will 18s be legal of my Fairmont EF (currentely with stock 15s)?

technically no they wouldnt be legal. vic roads roadworthy rulles say that you can increase the size of your wheels by no more than 2in from factory. so if you wanted to play it safe then you should go for 17's but hey you would have to come across a C*** of a coppa if he's going to book you for some thing like that

look up the old dealer specs for your car, if there was a 16" option, or if there was a vehicle in the range similar to yours with 16" rims (sportsman?) the 18"s will be OK

sort of, the ELGT would have had a slightly different suspesion setup to normal EL's,

Using that theory you could go up to 19"s on EB/ED as well,

Its a very grey area, it would depend on the cop that pulled you over to do the on the spot roadworthy

you could use the tyre placard as this has the preassure for the 16inch ftrs on it.
whether they were a factory option on fairmonts??

yeh, there ya go, if the tyre placard has a 16" rim size on it it means that that size rim was a factory fitment, and you are therefore allowed to go 2" bigger than that,

The placard says 15s. What if I just made one of got one out of an XR6 that says 16s? I was more concerned about insurance, who said I can go as big as a i like as long as its roadworthy.

i've read on here before about people fitting the xr6 placard on for the 2" rule.
in tassie the only limit is that the wheel is not to hit/inferfer with anything else. no specific size limits, i rang them out of intereest a while ago.

I think the 2" larger rule applies to that model of car or a higher spec equivilent of the same year and design. So EL GT has 17 x 8.5" you should be able to go 2" taller and 1" wider which would be 19 x 9.5".

Now that would be some wheel...
