Hey,

I was wondering if i could get help and advise for the following as I am very new to cars.

I have just got my car back (i had crashed it and insurance (RACV) were delaying and have had it off the road for 3 months). As a result, i got a brand new front (headlights, bumper, bonnet, windscreen).
Now that i have been out of action, i have saved a bit of money and want to get my car looking great and running nice.

I currently have the following:
17" GT rims (I think their genuine, please let me know if they are)
lowered 30mm
2.5'' Sports Exhaust

i want to get more performance out of it like maybe:
Extractors
shift kit
cam (please inform me what and how this works)
Cold air intake

My sound system is as follows:
Pioneer 8650 head unit
pioneer (yellow cone) 6.5" splits
pioneer (yellow cone) 6X9
2X12 Rockford Fosgate P2 subs
None of the sound system is installed yet, just sitting here.

I have a bodykit in mind, (the one found @ spoilerfactory.com.au like, 4DPwr and The_mont)
I want to add a custom interior, like black a LITTLE silver.
I must admit i do like 4DPWR's LOOKS, but yeah.... we will leave it at that.

I am going to perform the neon dash install this w/e and the clock display, while im at it, i was wondering how you guys get the silver look around the instrument cluster??? It looks awsome...
Sorry for rambling on,
Thanks in advance for all suggestions and comments.

G'day....good to hear your back on the road.

If your talking about the rims on the car in your photo gallery they aren't el gt rims.....they are ftr 16 inch xr rims.

For extractors i've had both genie and pacemaker and to be quite honest I think the pacemaker are a little better, although with the i6's a lot of people go for JMM (Jim Mock Motorsport) headers.

Shift kit isn't the greatest apparently, there will be a few different opinions but from what i've heard they aren't too crash hot, although i've never tried one.

I'd go for a Wade cam as they provide a great price on changeover cams. I'd say the one you'd be after is the 1004 (i think thats what it is) as with this camshaft your car will maintain proper idle as anything bigger will require tuning etc.

For the stereo I would probably replace the 6 x 9's as they aren't necessary with having 2 12 inch subbies. When you turn it up the 6 x 9's wont be able to handle the bass properly and you'll get distortion, so i'd be inclined to replace them with a set of 6 or 6.5 inch splits.

Anyway thats about it for the moment, it's real late, just finished work and not thinking too much so hope this gives a little bit of info.....i'm a bit rusty with the 6 cylinder talk too, probably should brush up a bit.

Cheers,
David

Hey thanks for the comments sofar,
yeah i was talking about your front bumper EF_Mont_Ghia, same as 4D PWR. I had priced one awhile ago, and they said extra $50 for the conversion but oh well.

The Rims are defintely 17" my insurance are trying to void my policy saying they are 17X9, but im pretty certain there 17X8, or at least i hope so.

How much am i looking for the wade cam and what kind of performance will it give me?

And for people that painted the instrument cluster surround, how did you take the plastic cover of and what did you spray it with to get the chrome look???

Keep em coming.

your rims aren't EL GT's - they are the ANZ copies of the EF XR8/EL XR6/8 rims - in 17's. and your rims wouldn't be 17x9's either - most likely 17x8's. EL GT's are 6 spokers - i'll try find you a pic of them.

as for the silver cluster surround - how compentant are you with taking apart your dash surround? its easy as - i didn't do mine myself, as it had already been done, but its easy as. best to go to ford or a wreckers & get yourself a spare one to practice on & get the spraying right - brand new from ford cost me $12 or something.

you will need to remove the entire dash surround - i.e. the bit that goes around your cluster/stereo/clock etc - easy as - just a few screws. once you've ripped that out, you'll see there are 4 (or 2?) screws set back holding the cluster in - undo those, and then remove the connector plugs for the cluster - and its out! then you can unclip the plastic front, and remove the surround from there. easy!

i've got a stage 2 crow cam - again, this was in the car when i got it, but very happy with it - can def feel it pulling from ~2500rpm - very nice

wade are FM sponsors though - i *think* their exchange cams are only around the $120 price? check out in the 6cyl forum - theres a heap of threads on cams - some sticky ones (i.e. at the top of the page) and others you'll just need to trawl through - someone did a review of a new grind cam from wade last week - sounded pretty sweet! worth spending the time having a look though.

as for interior paint - just go to s**t autos/repco etc & grab whatever paint tickles your fancy - ensure the surface is clean, and you spray evenly, and you should be fine.

go grab an AUIII XR8 intake snorkel as well as K&N panel filter - thats the easiest, cheapest & most effective intake method - and all you'll need. look at a custom mandrel intake as well - ~$150 or so from most exhaust shops - help with airflow, and look pretty specky!

lol def not the cluster! just the black surround for the dials - just a piece of black plastic with holes to see the dials through!
