So I finally get my car (EF Wagon) back from the panel shop after the Hilux-bullbar incident and notice a nice ED style door handle adorning the rear passenger door.

They have obviously left the old handle on and resprayed it to keep the labour costs down (the car should have been a write off) but obviously I want to replace it with the longer EF version.

Do the holes/linkage match up or is it drillin' time?

I have ef handles on my EB, and they fit straight in. Just be careful what you do though, they cover a different area, so if the door has been resprayed there will be areas that wont be covered with fresh paint. Take it back, point it out, get the to fix it. New rear door handle costs 30 dollars new and un painted, 35 for front. Cost me 120 to get all four handles painted too.

looks like they got a seceond hand door off an ED to fix your car. definatly take it back and get tehm to put an Ef handle in. make sure you go over the rest of your car first though and check everything else is ok. Better to go in with a list (if there is one) than 4 or 5 times

Is the handle a rough finish?
I'd be wary of it being an EA door or similar, without the side intrusion bar.
Check inside the door, or alternatively, if the interior door handle screws go straight into threaded metal on the door frame, as opposed to plastic bits, its an EA door.
That would be massively dodgy.

The handle is smooth.

They left the old trim in the car which has an ash-tray in it and is mostly vinyl with a cloth insert around where the handle goes. Maybe that indicates a model?

I'll rip the panel off on the weekend and see what's inside.

I'm not going to get too excited just yet as they saved it from being written off as a favour and the rest of the car looks OK (apart from white overspay on my nice black towbar which I had to fix yesterday)

yeah ef and el falcons dont have ash trays in the doors. another thing ford deleted. also no lock snib/button on the back doors either.
so if it has lock button on the inside and an ash tray then its not an ef/l door lol
