im getting my windows tinted by tint professor for $240.00. Is this a good price? Also, im getting the legal tint on the sides but the guy said he'll do 20% on the back window for free, so i took it. However i was speaking with a bird from Ford about window tinting (she was gonna charge me 600) and she reckons its not a good idea because of insurance voids and things like that. She reckons some guy sued his tinting company for making it illegal even though he knew. I just wanna know whether i should leave it at the darkest legal, or go the bit darker?

In my opinion it would be safe to go a bit darker than legal...
I got my windows tinted, to legal specifications, and am not really impressed. Its not as dark as i had hoped and have seen many cars with tint that is quite a lot darker than mine... As long as you drive sensibly and dont draw attention to yourself, you should be fine i think. Provided that you dont go with tint that is insanely dark... |

Ok, what do you think is a good level to go to without drawing attention but still looks good and has high visibility.

i wouldnt recommend it seeing that you will have to display your P's .. and if its a dark tint the P's will give a dead giveaway..
plus P plates is just cop bait... so just keep that in mind when you are getting them done

I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that you can legally tint rear windows as dark as you like, that only the front doors were resticted.
If the tinting is done to the legal limit there shouldn't be any trouble with insurance companies.

thats what the tinter told me when i got mine done to.... 20% seems to fairly popular, but if u r worried about cops, and think that 35% isnt dark enough, go with some 28%, the tint shop should be able to get it in for u...

I wont worry for now, becuase ill see how dark it is if its too dark theres a 30money back garuntee, but ill prolly go for a28-30%

if u are worried about insurance, i heard that u have 24 hours to get an assesor to look at it after an accident, so tow it home and take the tint off... not sure how many ppl do this.
i just went with 35%, i cbf rebelling anymore

uummmmm yes and no
it definately improves the look of the car (see gallery), but i would like it slightly darker. From some angles it looks pitch black, and others it can look less tinted. I went darkest legal (35%) I think it's good, and the metal-film has much better properties than cheap plastic tint. Anyways, the guy here (Reece from Premier Tint) said that only commercial vehicles are legally allowed darker tint on their windows - for a general vehical the limit is 35% for any window (except of course the windscreen, where no tint is allowed). Might be different in other states however.
