I've been pondering for a while now how I would go about adding a little light to indicate when cruise control is set.
I'm assuming I could fairly simply splice into a wire in the cruise control system and connect it to a little relay with an LED but I'm not sure which one... I can't exactly pull my dash to bits and poke around with a multimetre as the car would need to be moving! I've got my gregory's out but can't make heads or tails of the wiring diagram... Anyone shed some light on this? I'm used to having it in the parents AU XR6...

Do you mean when you turn Cruise on? or when you actually set the km/h?

Hmm, never actually seen it then. I've never seen any "SET" light come on in my dad's AU.

There isn't a light... The LED display changes from "CRUISE ON" to "CRUISE SET"
As I don't have LED display modifying skills, a little light is the next best thing.

I seee. Hmm i'd like to see if you are even able to make a mod out of this. I don't think it may be possible.
EIDT: Since its the cruise module that takes care of the signals coming from the buttons.

There is no 'out' signal generated by the cruise module that could be used to trigger a relay for a light to be turned on.
When you push the 'SET' button it sends a signal at a set voltage down the same wire all the other buttons use to tell the cruise module that the 'SET' button has been pushed. The other buttons all have different resistors to change the voltage signal. I can't think of a way to intercept that line and identify the required voltage range to then trigger a relay only when that specified voltage has been received. BenJ

I figured that's what all the different resistors in the switches were for given there were only two wires going from the switches to the cruise module...
You could possibly use a latching relay...? Trigger on/off whenever a signal is recieved from any of the SET buttons... however that wouldn't cause the light to go off when the cruise is auto cancelled by the brake lights or pressure switch... hm... back to the drawing board...

Watching with interest. A speed set readout would be really good too, but that's pushing it a little i think.

The cruise module receives data re speed from the cluster so in effect the speed indicated by your speedo is what the cruise module is using to SET the speed at when you push the button. BenJ

Seemings you bring it up... How would one go about wiring up a digital speedo?
I've never looked into it but it would be funky

I would assume that it would have to know how to interpret the signal sent from the Speedo Sender and have some built in calibration function to tell it what speed is what.
Early Digital dashes in Fairlane and Fairmont Ghias had a BIG digital speedo so it is doable. BenJ
