I've only just noticed that there's a bulb holder on the same line that feeds my Cigarette Lighter. It is meant to fit into the keyed hole in the back of the cigarette lighter socket. HOWEVER, it was taped back to the foam-covered line that feeds the lighter socket. It's been like this for 4 years and this is the first time I've noticed it!

It's never had a globe in it. And the way it was taped back, it looks as if it was meant to illuminate the trinket-tray underneath the tissue-box.

Has anyone else seen this before? Have you put a bulb into it? Did you choose to install it into the lighter socket or leave it illuminating your trinket tray.

it's a tiny bulb - what sort of bulb is it exactly? It looks like a T5 to me.

Awe heck. I just checked the Terence Ghia, and found a bulb holder taped up the same way.

WTF?

Has anyone ever come across this before? There's absolutely no way I could be the only one. Maybe it's such as small thing that search engines can't find it?

I noticed I missed some detail.

Original car that I detected this in was an '03 BA XR8 with Premium Sound - so it had the footwell lights in the front minus the globes.

The other car is an '04 SX Territory Ghia, and the globes were already in the front footwell holders.

Have since found this same holder in an '03 BA XT with Standard Audio.

Some pics. This is AFTER I've removed the tape so that the bulb-holder isn't doubling back.

If you option the smokers pack from new it illuminates and you get a cigarette lighter instead of the "power source".

I had someone else post up a picture on a different topic, and noticed their Power Socket cable with the T5 cable still doubled-back and taped.

Power Socket is in the bottom left of the picture, with the blue-white cable feeding to it. Where the foam starts is some tape wrapping, which is where the T5 cable splits and doubles back. At the next tape-wrap you can see it holding a small T5 Globe Holder.

This is from a BA Ghia with Prestige Audio and Dual Zone Climate Control.

it doesn't work that well. The smokers pack actually has a different surround. Its a proper cigarette lighter rather than a power source. It has a glowing ring around the source and a push in cigarette lighter just like previous model falcons have had.

Ooh. Glowing Ring. Brings back memories of Beavis and Buthead.

He said ring ..hehehe...hehehe...hehehe....

I went to supercheap to get some T5's - freaked out that a pack of two cost $5. So I reckon the Blue LED jobbies on eBay for that much including shipping is better value.

The Blue T5 leds arrived. They are installed into my BA and in the missus SX Ghia. I shall try and take a long-exposure shot on the digital camera to show you what it is like.
