I'm trying to remove the Mudflaps from the front guards on my BAXR - and do you think I can so much as budge the bloody Fir Tree clips that hold them in?

All the scrivets have come out easy, but not one single Fir Tree has budged.

Does anyone have any handy techniques or tools for getting these cheap-a*** bastards out?

There's two at the top of the splash shield as well that I haven't even started on. The 4 x on the Mudflap are lucky not to have split on me I've put that much pressure on them from behind with two screwdrivers to get them out - and they haven't moved a bit!

I'm aiming to clean out the washer bottle filters (and getting some ideas for other mods based on upgrading my BA single-pump-no-sensor bottle unit with a Territory dual-pump-plus-sensor).

It just so happens that I did our Territory today thanks to a blocked windscreen pump filter (the rear pump was fine) and the job was so much easier since there were no bloody fir trees....

Well, if I could ever get them out, I would, yeah.

At least I think they are fir-tree clips - similar to what's holding in the parcel shelf .

Nope. Bugger it. I spent another 2 hours on them this morning.

It was just to get in and do a bit of cleaning. When I actually need to get in I'm just going to cut the bastards off and put new ones in.

I can't believe how hard they've made it. I'm somewhat dirty about it too. Fir-tree clips are just an incompetent design engineer's fastener if you ask me.

Gimme a screw any day
(lol)

'Fir Tree' clips are those plastic screws, but instead of a thread, the shaft is covered in 'flaps' They push in, and grab, very hard to remove.

Commonly used to hold carpet and plastic trim on.

Hmm, I normally try those f**k with the screw driver appropriate for about minute, if no luck(so 80% of the time), grab a hold of surrounding plastic and yank, if their real buggers in comes a big flathead, and try and lever the two pieces I want apart, eventually they pop out.

Find an industrial fastener place, place here in Canberra, does 'em for like $2 for 10.
