the bcm in my ef fairmont seems to be having some issues

you need to bang it to start the car

the room lights turn on whenever they like (a few bangs fix that)

and my window sprayers have stopped working

does anyone know the cost of a replacement from ford or a wreaker

I'd be suprised if the problem is the BCM. They are surface mount electronics so banging should make no difference.

My guess would be a plug has come loose, or an earth connection.

are you sure that these things didnt STOP working from the banging?

in all seriousness the BCM doesn't do that, check all connection, especially ground points. check around the place where you are banging... the plug is probably behind the dash... also maybe one of the fuses have come loose?

Cheers

I've just bought a '94 Ef GLI for $3500.00. Starts most of the time but has same drama, I have just got under the dash and tapped on top of the bcm when the car doesn't crank and sure enough it starts to crank. I've tried moving around the wires on the terminals and around that area and the only thing that works is giving the bcm a tap on the box.

As far as your washers are concerned remove the hose off the jets and try. If nothing comes out and the motor operates it could be a blocked hose somewhere or try this. remove the pump fromn the bottle, the part that goes into the bottle sometimes gets blocked with scum. give it a prod to free this stuff up and blow with compressed air and try it again. I'm a mechanic and have come across this alot, not only in falcons, but all cars.

I'll keep you posted on the bcm thing when I have fixed mine.

It is most likely the BCM, they develope problems from dry solder joints. Banging on the BCM results in the bad joint(s) making and then it works.

The interior lights and windscreen washers are also controlled by the BCM so would be related.

Brand new they are pretty pricey, maybe someone repairs them and does change over? I dunno.

Same thing - different sources call them different - Gregories manuals for example call them BCM's.
