Bloody nice work brother. I've been looking for some Fairlane / Ghia door trims too... Think mine are going to be BA style blue...!
Am still having trouble removing the whole dash to get the digital climate control out as a complete unit - Looks too complicated with all that wiring at stuff, so am just intending to pull the whole lot out of Fairmont and put into Futura. I agree on the ugly steering wheel that is Fords idea of humour. Just how much room to they really really need for a half decent airbag?!!!! (oops - posted this message here before reading to the very end where you've compiled all your threads into one... sorry!)

It came off a late EL wagon though, so it was just about a direct fit. btw Ben. The car's coming along great.

hi, i have recently done a full ef dash coversion into my ed xr6, your post helped alot with wiring in the instrument cluster, i noticed you had a problem with the oil pressure guage, the cluster im using is a base model ef and dosent have the pressure guage but i do have the warning light on permanently, im assuming this would be the same problem?
also do you know if the fuel guage and temp will be reasonably accurate? any help would be much appreciated.

What ECU are you using? I will have to look up my pinout chart at home tonight, but if you are not using an EL ECU, then you will have these sort of issues. BenJ

im just using my stock ed xr6 5spd ecu, everything seems to be ok, got rid of the shudders in the tacho, really the only downside to the ed ecu seems to be the oil pressure, and i realised last nite the temp guage is dead, according to the ef cluster pinout diagram it dosent have any temp guage input like the ed (red/white) wire, although the actual loom from the ef had a few more wires then the pinout chart shows, could any of those be the temp...?

You MUST use the EL ECU.
The cluster requires the DATA line from the EL ECU for the components that are not working. The temp and oil guages are a couple of these. BenJ

would i need an el xr6 5spd ecu? and does that mean i would need to change the manifold and all that gear too or can i just strait swap it?

Ideally, an EL XR6 Manual ECU is the best option, but they are as rare as hens teeth. Another option is to find any old EL Auto ECU and get a J3 chip with an EL XR Manual tune on it. You can run an EL ECU with the log manifold, but the timing and fuel maps are designed to work with the BBM manifold. It works ok with the log manifold and you can advance the timing a bit to compensate. I do recommend doing the BBM conversion as it really helps a lot with low down torque. In fact that was one of the best driveability improvements I have done to my wagon. Cheers BenJ

in the future ill want to do the bbm swap ive got a spare parts ef i could use but would that be as good? all the dash and cluster came from that car so im guessing its easier,
also with this bbm conversion how did you do the wiring from ecu to bbm etc? you didnt use el looms rite? cheers

I just added in the wires to the EB ECU plug and ran them through to the engine bay. Makes it much simpler.
An EF BBM will work fine. The only difference is the EL BBM has mounting lugs on the back half for the EL intake pipe work. If you have the parts car, you will have all the bits needed for the BBM conversion. Good luck with it all. Cheers BenJ

ok sounds good, can i use the ef auto ecu though (with the chip of course)?? and do you have any pinouts or diagrams for the conversion?

No, you can't use the EF ECU as it is designed to work with the Coil Pack ignition system. You need the EL ECU as ELs reverted back to using a distributor.

ok no problem, so id use the EF BBM with an EL ECU and its just a case of inserting additional wiring then? thanks heaps for your help on this it goes a long way.
