Hey,

I scored some EB GT door trims (minus the yucky woodgrain s**t), that I plan to put the sprint panels into - and they are going into my XR.

The door trims are for elec windows, so I figure I may as well do elec windows now.

I know I need the looms, the mechanism, fairmont centre console, and the wiring from under the console.

Question... Should I go to pick n payless and try and get all the parts (and pray they work).. or should I buy another car to use for parts??

Whilst thinking about this, a work mate has offered me a Cobalt Blue 1993 EBII Fairmont ghia wagon, with leather, climate control, cruise, power windows and all the ghia goodies for under $2000.

Its got a few scratches, and needs a clean - but other than that - there is nothing wrong with it.

Now I need to work out if i should get a 4th car!!!, or just get the parts!!

(but the leather interior is tempting....and so is the climate control....)

well if you do get it either transfer the fairmont goodies across to your XR8 or do a engine swap and sell the XR rebadged XR 6 i'm sure some P plater would pay $4000 for a look a like ED look a like XR 6 hell even sray the rocker cover red.

huh??

I have no idea what you mean.

engine swap with what?

the fairmont ghia has a stocky motor. its my fairmont that has the XR6 motor (it has a red tickford rocker cover already, so I dont need to respray it)

i dun think u should buy a whole car...

we have done so ourselfs and u end up not using all the parts e.g. engine, gearbox, diff, most of the interior bits and exterior panels.

else, u can buy an EA Ghia for around $500 in the auctions, depending the condition.

buying the complete power window conversion for 4 doors should end up around $400 anywaz, incldn: switches, door trims, actuator.

cheers

Yeah - I have almost talked myself into it...

I could use the seats for the wagon, the power windows for the XR, the centre console for the XR, and then throw some spare stuff into it, and flog it off (or knowing me, keep it and end up modifying it)

In reply to your post, if you want to go through the hassles of selling stuff, a spare parts car would be worth it... As you'd have the 3.45 LSD, not sure on the engine, tickford had nothing to do with Ghia's then, did they? anyway, if you are just after power windows, I would get all the parts from wreckers, but from reliable wreckers... either that, or I give you my power windows, and you can tell me about this work mate, and talk him into a discount for me

Cheers

And it all started from buying a nice set of innocent door trims..

Yeah - I think these are gonna be the most expensive set of door trims in the world...

hehe

OK, I am pretty sure I am getting the ghia now.

Power windows - for the XR
Centre console - for the XR
Seats - for my fairmont

So that means I am gonna have an EB11 ghia wagon, with stock fairmont seats (fluffy grey ones), and wind up windows spare...

I dont really need a 4th car, but I can see myself keeping it and doing something stupid to it...

Unless someone wants to buy it off me afterwards...
