well taking my old steering wheel off and ive undone the airbag bolts..and the centre star one..and yes i know they are a pain in the a** but i got my mates vl one off just by pulling it...this one aint budgin!!! any hints? i have most tools and good knowledge but just cant think of anything to get it off.
would be much appreciated cheers

put the bolt back in 4 or 5 threads and wobble it from side to side and up and down, should come easy enough

ive probably removed about 50 wheels either at work or outside of work. the wobble side to side trick loosens them up most times or use ur hands or a rubber mallet from behind with the nut on a few turns. but ONE on a VK i had to use a hub puller because it was rusted and it was the wrong boss kit that someone had hammered on then used the nut to pull it on the rest of the way......

dont baby it either, get stuck into it and be firm with hands and itl pop off. almost broken my nose 6 yrs ago swapping my vw steering wheel cos i took the nut the whole way off, never again will i forget that hahaha

Worse comes to worse put a couple of blocks of wood on the floor so you can get more leverage with your legs, make sure the seat is close |

also a trick ive seen other do is square up the nut with the end of the thread on the shaft. and give it afew taps with a hammer. breaks up some of the surface tension with abit of the shock from the hammer, worth a try. dont mushroom the shaft though.

As a former wheel aligner I have pulled many wheels off.
I have had to use a steering wheel puller on about a 1/3 of ef/el's due to the square shaft. Be careful using too much force. They are a collapsible shaft and it can be damaged...

I have never taken an EL wheel off but the old Celica's and that had a little hole on the end from where they were machined, you can put a Punch in there and do it that way to avoid damaging the thread. |

How I did mine (as it was never going back on lol): hammer - use the claws to grab the wheel as you reef the hammer towards you. Took about 3 pulls but it came off, and I could not budge it just by pulling it around. surprisingly it did not damage the wheel lol.

thanks guys. i got it off!.
just gave a few taps and pop..  now i have a nice xr leather steering wheel in my ghia thanks for all the help!!!!
