hi there. i have recently bought a 1993 eb fairmont. it has blown the central locking fuse. i haven't disconnected the door motors yet to see why. does this fuse also power the boot and fuel filler release ? these don't work either, and there is no power to them and the only fuse i found blown was the central locking one.

the fuse blows as soon as it is inserted. i have disconnected all of the door motors, and the switch for the boot/fuel flap release. do they have relays ?

The power line will most likely be yellow - at the fuse terminals, one terminal should have 12v to earth, the other (the yellow wire) will have zero resistance to earth (due to the short).

The only other thing that draws this power is the smartlock module - try unplugging it too.

Otherwise, I'd suspect the door lock power line may've chafed through near a door hinge, or going through a panel, etc.
If it is the door lock power line, you may need to cut and rejoin it in places to isolate the area where the short is.

thanks for that. is the smartlock module above the brake pedal ? i did see yellow wires on the boot/fuel door switches. i suppose i'll have a better look at the wiring going to the doors.

well, it's fixed. i found a plug tht had a yelow wire in it. in the driver's footwell area. i unplugged it, the interior light went out. i put a fuse in, it didn't blow. also, nothing worked. plugged the plug backin, and everything wants to work. got me stuffed. i hate when things fix them selves. but hey,it works and thanks for the help.
