I have a problem every now and then where my doors will try to lock, if the door is open the locks will go up and down (they have a feature where they will not centrally lock if a door is open) and if i shut the door they will lock. they can only be unlocked at this stage by using the interior door handle or using the key but as soon as you take the key out or let go of the handle they will try to lock again.

This problem has thus far been solved by taking the + leads off the battery and letting it sit for a few mins to reset it.

there must be an easy and less expensive way than just replacing the lot. ?Does anyone know what might be causing it?

I would suggest one of your actuators is faulty - if it locks out of sequence with the others the BEM registers a fault and cycles the locks again.. it can get stuck in a loop for a while.

Have a search on here - you need to see which one is faulty (one by one) and replace it. Not hard!!

It was in the "New posts
Audio, Visual and Communications Forum
Discuss Car Audio/Visual, Communications, Alarms & Security"

It is to do with alarms and security

Anyway its in the EA so there is no BEM and it is happening in all the doors simultaneously not just one door.

This is actually a common problem. Same thing happened on my EL and I put up with it until one day I shut the door with the keys in the ignition at the servo and the central locking locked the whole thing up. Cost me $80 to get it opened by RACQ. The dude told me this happens to a lot of Fords. It is the actuator in one of the doors that is stuffed.

Just take it to Ford and they will replace it for you. Cost me less than the $80 to replace it.
