G'day all,
I changed over my EF gli cluster for a xr type- its not the one that requires the resistor.

Problem is this, the odometer is not displaying at all and a warning lamp for the thermo fans (I think) is flashing but there is no temp problem- they are working.

I read the tech doc dedicated to changing EF clusters but still don't know.
Thank you in advance

Firstly, the ODO reading lamp 'will' be blown'

Secondly, as you have a GLi, the flashing RED display (box with a fan in it) is the low Coolant warning jewel.

To amend this flashing remove the globe and tape the hole.
OR
Add the low level sender to the recovery bottle and wire it up as per the doco.

I hope this clears it up for you.

Also If you have ABS, the engine bay wiring is ALREADY there to add the low level float to the bottle also the Low washer level wiring too.
But these wires do-not make it to the cluster, you have to fish them out from the drivers side interior loom plug.

Cheers.

Changed the bulb today at work. Swaped over the odo lite from old cluster.
A few mins later driving home everything OK. Then switched on the head lights while sitting at lights at Flinders Street Station (next to cop shop) and everything lit up then completely died!
Started again 2 secs later everything was working with head lights off
Car drives fine but with the headlights on theres no trip computer display, no odometer display.
Central locking is ok but the smartlock light doesn't come on at all when the car is off but flashes normally when my alarm is switched on?
WTF have I done!!
Just been for a drive, head lites on- no odometer & no trip comp display.
I haven't checked anything yet (tomorrow)- thought I'd ask you all first, (before I f#ck anything else)!
Thank you in advance

cheers-I'll have to check some part no.s
Well when I bought it I was told it was XR and the trip computer has been working with the head lights on for a few days.
If the resisitor isn't there then it shouldn't light up at all (?)
And with it not being there would it cause everything to stall(?)

Without the resistor it will be OK without the lights but stop when the lights are on. Stalling issue is something else.

I'm just lucky

but if the cluster is fairmont my trip computer shouldn't have been on at all with the head lights (?)

you can tell if its xr6 or fairmont by looking at the little sticker on it....on the back somewhere it should say what it is out of....

if not ive got a spare xr6 and fairmont cluster you could try
