Ok,

Im nearly finished the upgrade, it has been a lot easier than I thought...worked on it today 10-7.

I have swapped over the dash loom, airbox etc...the dash is mostly back in, all looms connected.

Now the problem...The trip computer and CC displays do not light up. ie the bulbs dont come on...although they are both working at this point as confirmed by shining a light in the back to light up the display.

The trip computer one comes on when you press a button on it as it should, but doesnt light up when ignition is on...Any ideas why this might be and where I can look?

Also the little bulbs that illuminates the ignition key wont turn off even when the engine is started, only when the doors are locked.

Apart from that, all has gone perfectly! CC Self test calls E5 which is ambient sensor, the only thing I am missing...need to get in touch with FTG...

One last thing...on the XR6 loom that I pulled from my car, there is an extra relay that isnt on the loom that I put in (fairmont or ghia not sure?) it was sitting behind the 4 other relays near the fusebox. Anyone know what it would be?

I'll post pics tomorrow when its all done...hopefully!

Thanks!

The wire going to the RHS cluster plug isnt in properly.

That did the trick, thanks!

Now I have a new problem....the LCD display is very dim...I pulled out the bulb and connected it to another 12V source....it was bright as buggery, but when I connect it to the LCD display of the CC, it is VERY dim!

Im not sure why this is? COuld it be that because I used a higher series loom, that the LCD is expecting the Ghia Interior dimmer switch to be used? The one next to the headlight switch on high series?

That all I can think of....please help! :(

EDIT: could it be related to this somehow?

http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/documents.php?doc=14

It talks about adding a resistor to the instrument panel when putting a high series cluster into Gli/XR...not quite the same situation but somewhat similar by me using the high series loom maybe?

is it only dim when you have your lights on or is it dim all the time ?

Could be.

Like you said the Fairmont cluster into a GLi/Futura needs a resistor (XRs dont for soem reason). If you didnt do that, try it, should cost much at all, and see if that fixes it.

Ok in tried removing the resistor, bulb wouldnt light up at all. Tried shorting the resistor, smoked the bulb....the correct 47 ohm resistor is in there, so I think its something to do with the interior dimming maybe...

XR's already ahve the required resistor. yeah...
that or fit a fairmont dimmer switch.

Add the big brown one in the bottom to the rigth of the connector (R63). It's a 1Watt 47Ohm jobbie. Jaycar sell them in a 2-pack for a handful of small change.

A fairmont cluster won't have it...

This is confusing....will it work if I add a fairmont dimmer switch? Isnt this controlled by the BEM or something?

Try the resistor. IIRC my trip comp didnt light up when I had the mont cluster in WITHOUT the resistor.

Ok....temporarily solved....I removed the LCD dimming line and replaced it with earth, so the bulb is referenced to GND, now its bright. It just means it wont dim withy lights on, but I can live with that for now.

The other 2 bulbs for button illumination dont work...thats the next thing to bodge...then Ill get some pics and sghit up....

you upgraded to a fairmont loom + BEM yeah? if so then adding the right switch will finish the job.

Nah not the BEM...just the loom....thats why its not working then? Doh!

Oh well, I guess they cost a fair bit, so I'll leave it as it is for now...

thanks for the help...

If you add the resistor, it'll work like your old cluster
