Cruise control won't turn on :( It was working fine and now not at all!

I think it's just the ON/OFF button which has broken... Anyone else encountered this or got suggestions?

In trying to fix it I discovered the weird bug where pressing the ON and OFF buttons together makes the horn go off!!

Are your brake lts working??
Check the Brake lts fuse.
Take the cover off the LH cruise switch assy by carefully levering off with instrument screwdrivers.
Short out the legs of each button switch, and see if they work - more than likely a push button has failed, they can be replaced by another button from a broken switch assy, left or right.
If the horns work, then you're getting 12v through the clockspring wiring - only need to check the other 2 lines if the switch buttons are okay.

brake light fuse was blown.

Replaced it with another 15A and it blew as soon as I put a brick on the brake pedal.

Replaced it with a 20A and once again... blew as soon as the brake pedal was depressed.

Ideas? Blown globe?

No, a blown globe just leaves an open circuit, blown fuse = short circuit. Need to look for worn insulation on wiring where they rub on the body. Possibly a short inside the brake light switch.

Most likely around the globe area - check park light operation. Might have single filament globes fitted.

Thanks to Simon L who found the problem I never would've!

I used to have a spoiler with a brake light... When I took the spoiler off I cut the wires to the brake line and (thought) I taped them up seperately. Obviously I didn't as they were shorting out!

Re-taped and re-fused and problem solvered!
