Mine has a lap belt, as the rear seats are split
for folding.

Depends, the later ones had lap/sash, older ones just had lap. Mines a June 93 and has lap/sash.

surely your leaving the steel shelf in place? just mould the fibreglass to include the belt? or swap it for a lap belt. is that legal?

Well my EBII has the lap sash & I must admit it makes life easy compared to the parcel shelf mounted seatbelt as when you spilt the seats its harder to pull down.
