I'm running an EF ghia cluster in my EL. and used the EF templates to design my custom dials. Absolutely no issues in making the swap. To complete, I had to add teh resistor for the diming circuit to work, and I swapped EEPROMs so keep my original odometer (the EF cluster had more than double what I had on it).

Id just get one from the wreckers and see where you take it apart and try it with that one first

@ daniel.

You know how to take the cluster out first?

If not..

- Remove ash tray
- remove screws from ashtray/stereo surround. (there's 3 IIRC)
- Remove ashtray/stereo surround
- Remove screws from dash surround. (3 above the cluster, 1 above the boot/fuel buttons, 1 above the door lock button)
- Remove the screws from the cluster. Two on each side.
- Wiggle out, unplug two (3 if a Fairlane/LTD) loom plugs.
Done.

Open Cluster.
(you'll need a T15 torx bit screw driver)
- remove 2 (IIRC) torx screws from the top of the cluster.
- there'll be 4 (5?) plastic clips holding the black shroud, and clear face on.
- Make note (take a photo) of where the needles point when the cluster is off. DO NOT MOVE THEM (you'll ruin the accuracy of the gauges).
- Pry the needles off, in a smooth upwards motion (perpendicular to the dial face). I find a fork works well, protect the dial face with a tissue.
- Lift the dial face off, there's a few friction tabs that hold it in tight, they just pull through the dial face.

- reverse to assemble, keeping in mind to position the needles correctly (again resist the temptation to give them a spin), and don't push them all the way down or they'll get caught on the dial face.

(from memory, sold my EL over a year ago, so I may be a lil rusty).

The EF's use white lights, the orange LCD is done with an orange filter, you need to change that. That IS a difficult job. It is documented elsewhere on this site.
