I am just wondering what the differant trim options in the el were? Eg. Gli, Fututra, Fairmont etc. Do the fairmonts and fairlanes have the same dash, glovebox etc., as the gli's and futura's?

GLi - low series cluster - no trip computer - auto climate control - no airbag on top of the glove box - cloth seats and door trims wind up windows

Fairmont - high series cluster - trip computer -electric climate control - no airbag on top of the glove box -velua (spelling) seats and door trims -eletric windows

Fairmont Ghia - high series cluster - trip computer -electric climate control - airbag on top of the glove box - leather seats and door trims - eletric windows

Fututra - was just a mix between GLi and Fairmont (i think) - wind up windows

XR - high series cluster (i think) - trip computer was just a clock - auto climate control - no airbag on top of glove box - cloth seats and door trims - wind up windows

hope that helps
il try find some pics

they are the same shape. they jst have diffrent things in them. if you can get your hands on a el fairmont ghia dash go for it but change the cluster to the ef one.

Yeah they are the same, except el, has grey buttons, and ef have black buttons, I heard something about the greys bing slightly different recently between ef and el, but it was just something brief I read somewhere.

Passenger airbag is one of the biggest changes, it was available on most if not all models, but not all that often selected from what I have seen

Theres also the center bezel which can have 1,2 or 3 holes. depending on if you have electric ariel, economy switch on a column shift, demister, rear wipers on a wagon.

Other than the looms and s**t there all the same.

ef and el greys are slightly different. If you change to a ef/el dash do the door trims too but remember to keep it all ef or all el.

Im not sure how the Boxcar center console matches to the ef/el dash either. someone whos done it all will have more answers.

OK,

The dash from an EF or EL will physically bolt in to the EB.

The EF/EL console will fit with some minor mods.

Low Spec and High Spec are different in regards to the following:

the wiring loom
trip computer
additional buttons ie. antenna height in the fairmont
auto climate control - and associated components
the instrument cluster
Body electronics module
Headlight switch
Engine ECU is needed for the data line for the instrument cluster and trip computer

The dash wiring from and EF/EL is completely different to the EB and cannot work with each other.

This gives you two options for a dash conversion.

1. - Use an EB Dash loom from the spec level you wish to use and modify it to work with the EF/EL dash components.

2. - Use the complete EF/EL wiring loom including engine bay, dash and body

I did my conversion using option 1.

This link is the beginning part of my thread about the cluster conversion followed by the full dash conversion further down the page.
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/benj-s-eb-budget-buildup-t65386-43.html

PIMP LTD used option 2 and as he completed his conversion this long weekend, will have updates shortly on his conversion.

Neither option is easy or for the fainthearted. They require plenty of research and plenty can go wrong. Then there is the question of the handbrake and what you do with that.

BenJ
