Ok basicly driving home on friday evening and all of a sudden in my Au series I Fairmont Ghia the interior lights switched on without me opening a door or anything then smoke started to come out of the steering colom, Then the lights went dimm then back to normal by then i pulled the fuse out and that stopped the smoke, The fuse wasnt burnt out now when i put the fuse back in i cant turn the lights off even when i close the doors and lock the car with smart lock or start the car to drive it. Any help on this would be much appricated as i am stuck at a dead end

Since you'll have ignition key illumination, I'll guess the loom for it has pinched or got caught somewhere, it may have chafed and is shorting out. Try and find the connector for it on the lower column (two wires I'd think), disconnect it and see if the problem disappears. If not your problem is elsewhere.
About all I can recommend without seeing the car.
