hey all

have got 2 shifter handles here - on stock EF, the other AU XR. am going to fit the AU to my EF, based on iceblue2's inspirational thread! :P

now my q is, does anyone know of the exact workings of the internals of these shifters? is the orange bit in the EF one critical to its operation? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

cheers

DMacs right. Go to a wreckers destroy s**t then come home and ponder how you did it all. It would be the easiest way.

Hey Bob, just got back and have read your thread. The orange plastic I am guessing is critical in the operation of the shifter. I think it is used as a guide for the rod that pushes up and hits the lever inside the EF shifter. Because the hole in the orange part is smaller, I think this adds to the stability of the whole button in / out process and it stops the rod from flapping around inside the shaft. Later this week I am going to pull mine apart to get some better pictures and I will post them as soon as i do. Don't be deterred from doing this mod, it really isn't as hard as it seems.

sounds like it isn't on the stalk far enough. loosen the locking nut - give it a full 360 degree turn and tighten it up again! see how that goes!

Have had it all the way down. i think the rod is slipping up one side of the button area and sticking there...?

near impossible ... if you suspect the internals of the shifter are f**k then I would suggest getting another one in good condition from either a member (here) or from a wreckers!!
