Having a bit of a problem with my electrics, when i turn the car the engine starts up fine but i then having to give the key a bit of a nudge to get all of the electrics to come on, wipers, air, stereo etc...the main problem with this is that the fan only comes on about 1/10 times...this really isn't very handy as it looks like im driving with cataracts most of the time becauise of all windscreen fogging up, and also in summer when it's bloody hot and the air con wont come on, any idea what needs to be done to fix this? is it all in the ignition switch or would it be to do with the electrics, or both?

Cheers

i had the same problem and it was the ignition lock. u can use ur old barell and keep the same key. after its replaced it has to be coded to the car by leaving it switched to the on postion for 30 mins otherwise the car wont start.

It definitely sounds like the ignition switch is faulty. In some cases you can replace just the electric harness and contacts in one hit and in the worst case you have to replace the ignition barrel and everything, which is a b**ch as far as expense goes. You should be able to score just the harness from the wreckers and swap it over .1 or2 screws hold it in place and just make sure the components line up and all will be good.Cheers Kevman

the local mechanic has had a look at and and says he tried to fix the connections by hitting them with a nail punch or something. Sounds like i might have to get a new ignition switch then?

unless its a new switch thats expensive. i grabbed a used ignition switch from the wreckers for $25. fix the switch first cause thats probably why the fan's not working.

he thinks they will be 2 seperate problems, since when i nudge the key all accesories come on execpt the fan, that comes on about 2/10 times, and when it feels like it (sometimes after 10 secs, still waiting after 10 mins other times).

Mmate pull the dash out yourself. It should take about 4 hours or a day and I am sure there is a write up somewhere in the files and you only need hand tools like a No.2 Phillips and a 10 mm spanner and you are half way there.Add a couple of sockets and a ratchet and the job is more than feasible.a manual would help .Need some more words of encouragement? We have faith in you ,you can do it .Just believe in yourself ...Cheers Kevman :D

lol, the fan comes on after a few solid kicks under the glove box...might just have to keep doing that.

To cap off my day the new ignition wont connect to the car, 3 goes, 2 hours...still no go. Atleast i have an excuse to flog dad's BA mont tomorrow
