Whats everyones take on wiring some incar leds to the back of the cig plus and then using the actual cigarette plug as the actual switch? can it be done or what? maybe a bit ambitious, but who knows? a little birdy told me that the cig plug as a power source isnt very reliable, better off wiring it to the ignition??

ta

you want to use the heating element in the cig lighter to turn the leds on? it auto turns off when it reachs hot temperature.

i realise that the switch turns off automatically, and thats where i might be ebing a bit ambitious.

i was thinking i could modify the actual switch itself to be jsut a normal on/off capacity. a sort of inconspicuos neon switch if u will.

any knowledge on wether it could be done?

also, if i wire it to ignition, i still want an independant on off switch... so yeahhhhh.....

Have a fiddle around with the lighter itself. go to a wreckers and grab a couple. you should be able to take the heating element out then soilder a wire to the points where the element conected. then all you need to do is use some loctite to keep it there, run the wires and reassemble your car. either that or remove the guts from the plug hole and put a microswitch down there. should do the job too (as long as you disconnect the power to the lighter, or your plans are down the sink)

i dont think the fuses for the lighers are great for heating in most cars anyway. a few lights shouldn't be a problem. if not find a maxiblade fuse that is (tops) 5 amps up

im really interested to see how it turns out for you, ive heard of it done. love to see it tho

just be careful as you take ONE of the plugs out from the back and that will be your earth. the lead you leave in will be the 'energiser' for lack of a better word. the spare clip you took the first lead off goes to the other end of the lights.

the lighter may heat up too so make sure you test it for a short period first to make sure it works (and not set your car on fire)

i think you lost me.. im a complete IDIOT when it comes to electronics, so i cheated and hooked it up to the 12v lighter instead (mind you, after cutting a few wrong wires and then going, s**t, what was that?) lol!.

i then just put a on/off switch through the positive wire, and mounted it under the dash, am gonna wait till dark to position the leds so it looks good. Photos coming!

dont worry, as long as it works. you know, this opens up possiblities for anti theft systems as well. car wont start till the lighters clicked in.

Interesting

PHOTOS! cant wait to see photos
