Hi Guys,

I'm new just wanted to know if anyone could help. I have a ef xr6 and want to install climate control from a fairmont. I have been told that the wiring loom for all ef series cars are the same so should be able to support such a change is this true. Am i wasting my time.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

no it isn't - fairmont has the high series loom, your xr has the mid series (same as futura) if you want the cc mupgrade you'll need to upgrade to the high series loom or tap into your existing loom for the extra wires.

Who cares mate. Seriously you dont have to answer if its something you have seen before. I know your time must be so precious that you cant take 30sec to read the first post and realise its been done before. But not waste another 2 mins quoting s**t.

We dont need police in the forums thanks.

I actually think Greg is ight. Whats hte point iof having a search tool if no one uses it.

Anyway to add in climate control on your XR I think you need to upgrade the computer chip as well. I may be wrong however

Have a look here. This mod was performed on an EB but the airbox and dash mounting is pretty much all the same. The differences are negligible.

http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... highlight=

It is not a hard thing to do, but as it says, I would only perform this mod if you have a complete high series dash (not fairlane tho as you will run into problems with the cluster) and airbox to slot in thier. EB and EF/L air boxes are the same and unless you have the climate control one you will find the conversino impossible. I got mine from walliston wreckers in Perth for $100.00 and that included the body loom (for cruise) and centre console and a few other bits that I needed.

When I did mine I spent the whole time worrying that it wouldn't work when I got it back together, but it worked first go and was essentially plug and play.

The whole conversion took about 15 hours, but would be faster if you are a better spanner twirler than I.

Good luck if you decide to go through with it. It is well worth it as the end result as a big improvement and really enjoyable (especially if you do it yourself).

EDIT: Oh yeah if you do it. Take the time to change your heater core at the same time (adds 15 minutes and about $75 but will save you big quids or bother if you keep the car for a long time).
