Hey,
I just want to know who else has done this mod? I have done it to my EF Futura, using a Black ELGT gear boot. For some reason, it looks a tad out of place?
I just want to know, has anyone else done it, and does it look normal??

Also, if anyone else has attempted it, what did you do with the power/econ switch?? At the moment, mine is just hanging out from behind the ashtray (as can be seen by the hideous green plug), but I would like to mount it on the dash.

Here are some pics, sorry about the quality, I had to drop the res on my camera phone

Yeah, but it was easier than changing the whole stalk to a chrome one, as well as adding the woodgrain selector surround 8-)

i think if you could dye it and match the colour a bit more it wouldn't be soo bad ... but good on you for doing something a bit different though!!

I don't mind it.
Agree with the 'colour' comments, it would look (never thought I'd say this :P) better in crappa.
Gives me ideas about trying something similar with the ED but...
Edit: 2000th post.. and it sucked!

It would look much better in matching colour and maybe if there wasnt so much excess leather around it..
Like the manual one sits a bit higher than the auto so i guess thats why it needs a fair bit of play too; do you ever find looking at what gear your in a pain?
I mean when i goto reverse n whatnot i naturally look at my cluster or down at the shifter.. Guess you dont NEED to see what gear your in if your taking your time n thinking about it lol.

Personally EF.L auto surrounds look good to me; id leave it stock but great idea!!

A different perspective: Have you thought about the legality of this modification? Having the shifter unmarked (no P-R-N-D-3-2-1) might mean that if cops ever see it they'll sticker you because you can't see what gear you're in. I know then that if this was the case then they could sticker manual car with aftermarket gearknobs without the gears marked on them. I'm sure someone knows more about the legailty of it though? Just a thought though, i think it looks different :D

The price has gone up on the EL GT gear boot. I paid $39.40 for mine.
In rregards to not knowing what gear the car is in, I have no such issue wiith this. If you replace the bushes on the shifter (which I had done with the last gearbox service), the shifter takes a bit more effort to shift. I can actually feel the clunks as it moves between the selections.
If people are really worried about what gear the car is in, they can activate the diagnostics mode, and view that info in there, or they can do what dellboy did with his BA shifter conversion, and make a display to show what gear ther car is in.
I am not 100% sure about the legalities, but there is a lot woorse on the car, for example the spacers required for me to put on my skyline rims.
