gdday guys/gals

ok ill be quick, the cable conecting the bracket to the throtle body is in place, but the cable from the back of the membrane which attaches to the bracket is missing. my question is how hard is it to fit a new one, where would i find one, and what has to be removed?

I need a pic to be sure what you are talking about.

However the cable is a one piece and not servicable for replacement parts.

as you can see the ball connection connected to the end of the cable that leads to the throtle body is in place. however the cable/ball end that attaches to the bracket and mebrane is missing. from what i can see this cable moves the bracket which inturn moves the cable that is attached to the throtle body.

i have felt around behind the rubber membrane and the bracket and i cannot feel the missing cable.

this pic was taken from on the drivers side just to the side of the brake booster under the edge of the guard/firewall behind the front drivers side strut

when i press the on and off buttons on the steering wheel at the same time the horn sounds. however when driving if the on button is pressed, the cruise control light does not iluminate.

i hope i have explained this well enough now
cheers

That is a vacuum operated bellows. There is no second cable. The CC vacuum pump sucks on the bellows, the bellows pulls the cable, which controls the throttle position.

After installing the same system on my EA. CC wouldn't work on first test run. Problem was brake pedal switch. A quick adjustment and all was good.

A couple of years later it stopped working again, turned out to be the power connector at the vacuum pump.

The brake pedal switch is at the brake pedal. Its the one with a vacuum line attached too it. Not the other one as that is for your brake lights.

The other problem was the power connector that goes into the vacuum pump.
Vacuum pump is on the opposite side to the bellows in your pic. Check that the cable connector is in tight.

Brake pedal switch is a possibility.

You may want to make sure that your combination switch is operating ok. (check horn first, if not working then good chance this is your problem). The combo switch is the indicator and wiper stalks which are integral with the cruise and horn contacts for the steering wheel.

To check them properly, pull your steering wheel off and make sure that all three (points) are actually there for starters, then check that they are all lubed up ok and that they retract and spring back ok.

You can also isolate the wheel wiring and the switches themselves now with the wheel off, short the combo switch points against each other and one of the three (shorted to another of the three (I forget which one)) will turn the cruise light on on the dash if the rest of the system is ok.

will the light still iluminate if the ignition is set to on, and the car is in park?

update**
i just went and shorted out both of the switches on the brake pedal. the top one was the brake lights and the lower one did nothing. i hit the on button several times while each were shorted out and nothing came on. also checked the fuse while i was down there but that was fine. my on and off buttons are fine as far as i know as when both are pressed the horn sounds.

where would be the next check...the pump??? and if so where is it
cheers

Sorry, the Pump is located behind the washer bottle, under the bonnet.

thanks mate
checked the pump. there is one hose running to the diaphram from the pump.
however i found an organe piece of rubber which looked to be a plug for a hose wedged underneath the vaccum line just before the pump i thought what the?
when i removed the washer bottle, only one of the 2 outlets on the pump had a house connected to. and out of curiosity i placed the "vaccum hose blanker over this and it immediately ran for 1-2 seconds
i then went and checked if the light came on and nothing happening....
just a tad confused...should there be 2 lines running from the pump

update**the two T pieces: out of the 4 outlets (2 t pieces) 1 runs to the diaphram, one runs to the back of the pump, one runs somewhere where i cant see and one is left open. ?????

The second outlet on the pump is the exhaust for the pump. Nothing should come off there!

When you press the on button, do you hear a loud click come from somewhere to your left?
